Our Sweet Ellie
- Ellie is a Royal Bahamian Potcake with the most gentle soul you’ll ever meet. She’s sweet, loving, and a little shy at first—but once she trusts you, she’ll melt into your heart and never leave it. Ellie is the kind of dog who reminds you what unconditional love looks like. She was rescued from the streets of Palmetto Point on Eleuthera, Bahamas, where she had been living alone—injured, hungry, and heartworm positive. But even in her pain, Ellie never lost her gentle nature. She accepted love slowly, cautiously… and then completely. She has spent the last 9.5 months in a warm foster home where she’s been pampered, healed, and adored. The Things She Loves Most Ellie has a big heart and big feelings—and a soft spot for her toys, which we lovingly call her "babies". She carries them from room to room, gathers them into her favorite cozy spot, and even cuddles them when she sleeps. If one of her babies goes missing, she’ll gently sniff around the house to find it. She also loves to play fetch—yes, really! Toss one of her toys and she’ll happily trot after it, proudly bringing it back to you like the good girl she is. Another one of Ellie’s adorable quirks is her fascination with shoes. She doesn’t chew them apart, but she loves to carry them. Sometimes you’ll find a little pile she’s created—just shoes and love. We always say: if Ellie loves you, your shoe will go missing (and end up with some adorable tooth marks). Cuddles & Cozy Time Ellie is a true snuggler. She loves being close to her people and will happily climb into bed or curl up next to you on the couch. Tuck her under a warm blanket and you’ll have one happy pup. It’s her favorite way to fall asleep—curled up, safe, and wrapped in warmth. At bedtime, she sleeps right on the bed with you, often with one of her babies close by. If you have a soft blanket and a little room in your heart, you’ve already won her over. Personality & Temperament Ellie is calm, quiet, and incredibly well-mannered. She’s sweet with other dogs, friendly with cats, and polite with people of all ages. She’s the kind of pup who watches before she acts—observing the world carefully, then choosing love. She might be timid when meeting new people, but give her a little time and a lot of love, and you’ll discover her loyalty and affection run deep. She’s been such a light to everyone she’s met, and she’s ready to bring that same love to her forever family. A Few Notes to Know • Ellie is microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. • She is spayed and has been treated for heartworm, though she will need a final fast-kill treatment to fully clear it. • She was previously hit by a vehicle, and while her back right leg healed a bit crooked, it doesn’t slow her down. She runs, plays, and moves with ease, though she is sensitive about that leg and appreciates gentle handling. • She gets car sick, so we recommend no food before travel and lots of comfort afterward. Ellie is a one-of-a-kind girl—gentle, goofy, tender-hearted, and full of quiet joy. She doesn’t ask for much, just love, safety, and a soft place to land. In return, she’ll give you her whole heart. She may be moving on from the island, but she’ll always be our sweet Ellie girl. We are thankful for her foster mom and we hope that her next home will be the one where she stays forever. If you’re the lucky one to share your life with her, you’re about to meet your very best friend. 🐾💛
Ellie's Next Goals
My Recovery Plan
- Continue heartworm treatment and maybe look at my leg to see how it healed. My doctor here on the island says it is healed and it doesn't bother me...even though it's a little wonky. I still run, jump and play. It would be ideal to have some x-rays to assess my leg and how it healed because I was not able to get it x-rayed on the island so no one knows exactly where I broke it and how it healed.
- I have already been spayed.
- I need a nurturing environment to help me adjust to my new life and new family.
- Become acclimated with my new foster/family and into my new home.
- Get use to the cold winter weather in Canada. Where I come from there is no cold season and definitely no snow.
I Have A Foster Home
Once I arrive in Nova Scotia, beautiful Ms. Hailley will be my new foster mom. I am thankful for her and look forward to spending time with her and finding my forever family.
Forever Home
I want to find a loving forever home where I can thrive and be part of a caring family. I am seeking a compassionate owner who understands my unique needs and is willing to help me on my journey to recovery.

Ellie's Roots
...from the streets of Eleuthera
Ellie lived on the streets of Eleuthera, where she struggled to find food and water. She suffered from bug bites and was in poor condition when rescued. Since then, she has been under foster care, receiving love and care from her rescue mom and foster family.
Goals
What's next for Ellie?
- Undergo another heartworm treatment when she arrives in Canada and have her leg x-rayed to see if we leave it as is, or if it will require surgery to fix so she can live an even healthier life.
- She has found a nurturing and loving foster home where she will be cared for while being nursed through her recovery journey and she will be provided endless love. Thank you, Hailley, for doing this for Ellie and for us!
How You Can Help?
Keep praying for Ellie. For her health, safety, happiness, and for the perfect forever home.
