BAARK Spay & Neuter Clinic on Eleuthera
We are thrilled to welcome the BAARK team from Nassau, joined by incredible volunteers from near and far – including many from Canada! For several weeks, these dedicated volunteers are traveling across Eleuthera, holding spay and neuter clinics to provide essential care for the island’s beloved Potcakes and Potcats.
With two veterinarians, one vet tech, and dozens of compassionate volunteers, 176 spay and neuter surgeries have been successfully completed. In addition to these surgeries, animals have been microchipped, vaccinated, treated for fleas and ticks, and given baths and any extra medical care needed while under our care.
The volunteers have been nothing short of amazing, giving their time, energy, and love to make a difference. We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in this effort to improve the health and well-being of animals on the island. Thank you for helping create a brighter future for Eleuthera’s furry friends!

Community Care in James Cistern
Under the Bahamian sun, volunteers work tirelessly to serve the animals of James Cistern. With community support, this outdoor clinic brings essential care to cats and dogs, making a lasting difference for animals and their human neighbors alike.
A Clinic in Action
The clinic is bustling as dedicated volunteers prepare animals for surgery and assist with recovery. Each cat and dog is given expert care, ensuring they wake up healthy, calm, and ready for a brighter future.
Island Rescue on Wheels
This trusty truck travels the island, bringing hope to Eleuthera’s stray cats and dogs. Volunteers pick up Potcakes and Potcats for free spay and neuter services, helping to control the animal population and give them a chance at a better life.
The Fabulous Bahamian Five
Rescued by BAARK team on October 26, 2024
Rescued from Cupid’s Cay, Eleuthera, these five adorable puppies are full of charm and hope. While we weren’t able to catch their mom and two siblings, these five are now safe and sound. They’ve been cleaned up, given flea and tick treatment, and received all the health care we could provide to give them the best start.
For the next few weeks, they’ll stay with me, Griz, until they’re ready to fly to Nassau and then on to their forever homes in Canada or the U.S. These little ones are already on their way to a brighter future, and we can’t wait to see them thrive!
Moses (Mo)
Rescued by BAARK team on October 26, 2024
Moses, lovingly known as Mo, was rescued in James Cistern, Eleuthera. While the BAARK team was out catching Potcakes for healthcare, Mo crossed their path near a church and cemetery, his broken leg painfully visible. Instantly capturing the hearts of the team, he was brought back to the clinic, where it was confirmed that his leg was fractured in three places. Though he would need further assessment, Mo quietly sat in his cage for two days, patient and trusting despite everything he had endured.
The Great Escape
Update 10/26/2024: Mo gave everyone quite a scare on Saturday afternoon when he made a daring escape during bath time. He slipped away in a flash, leading to a chase by foot and vehicle. After an hour of searching, tears, and determination, we found him near a house on a hill overlooking the water. Mo eventually took refuge in a basement, where his mom-to-be lovingly scooped him up once more. Safely back in our care and in his mom's arms, Mo returned to the BAARK clinic, ready for the next chapter in his journey.
A New Journey Begins
Mo is off to a new life...
Update 10/27/2024: On Sunday afternoon, Mo embarked on the next step of his healing journey. He boarded a charter flight with his soon-to-be mom, headed to Nassau, where a team of specialists will develop a plan for his recovery. Mo will undergo heartworm treatment, and once he’s strong enough, his injured leg will be amputated. After recovery, Mo will fly to Nova Scotia to reunite with his new mom, Ellie, and start his forever life.

A Temporary Goodbye for Moses
Update 10/29/2024: Today, Moses said a temporary goodbye to his new mom as he settles into the next phase of his journey. He’s now in Nassau with his foster dad, who will care for him during his recovery and ensure he gets the healthcare he needs.
Mo will undergo heartworm treatment, followed by surgery to amputate his injured leg. With each step, he’s getting closer to a full recovery and the day he can reunite with his mom in Nova Scotia.
This is just a short farewell—soon, Mo will be healthy, happy, and ready to start his new life. Keep following his story and cheering him on at @bahamianmoses!
