I worked with Griz for almost 20 years from mid-career until my retirement in 2021. She is head and shoulders the best HR person I’ve worked with in my career, stretching from ADVA back to startups, Nortel, BNR and Spar Aerospace. Others can report how hard she works, how she goes the extra mile, her personal touch, and how broad her HR skillset is in terms of HR functions and language/geography. I’ll try to give a perspective from a senior exec viewpoint. In the last 5 years of my career when I was the GM of a 400-person, $400M/yr business unit, Griz was my “HR Business Partner”. In this role she had three critical functions. First she was the interface between my team and all the necessary but tedious HR process requirements mandated by law and best practices in the various jurisdictions in which we operated (USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, UK, Germany, Poland, Israel, India, Singapore, China). She made sure we did things the right way, but from my point of view, she made the process burden disappear. Secondly she was my trusted sounding board for organizational mood. Whether it was nipping people problems in the bud, giving some team direction/pep talk, or trying to work out how best to get the team through a transition (good or bad), she was the person I always turned to for advice. Finally, she was our ace for dealing with the rare but inevitable sticky situations. Whether it was saving a employee/manager relationship or keeping an upset former employee from going the legal route, Griz has turned around situations which seemed beyond redemption. A final comment is about work ethic. All of these talents are great, but urgent HR topics in a global organization can come up at any time.
